Phone Scam Alert

The UT Arlington Police Department wishes to notify the community of a phone scam that has raised concern. Members of the community have been contacted by an individual that identifies as a police officer. The caller states that the individual owes money to the university, has unpaid ”Homeland Security taxes," or other seemingly official debts. The caller threatens the individual with arrest if the debts are not paid. The caller solicits immediate payment from the individual for the alleged debts. The number used for this scam is often a cloned number from a legitimate agency.
The UT Arlington Police Department urges members of the community to be aware of this type of scam and refrain in providing payment to anyone soliciting money in this manner. University, law enforcement, or governmental officials will not contact you in this fashion or threaten arrest for non-payment under these circumstances.

Additionally, we recommend anyone with information pertaining to the person or persons committing this scam to contact the UT Arlington Police Department.
