UT Arlington statement on false attempted robbery complaint
Thursday, December 1, 2016
The UTA student who alleged that he was the victim of an assault and attempted robbery in Lot 47, in the 500 blk. of S. Nedderman, on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, has informed University police that he made a false report and the attempted robbery did not occur.
Upon receiving notification, UTA police immediately initiated an investigation into the incident, distributed a Clery Bulletin, and posted information via social media to alert the community.
During the follow-up investigation, the man said injuries that he initially reported to police were actually the result of an off-campus domestic disturbance with his girlfriend. The man admitted to making the false report so that he could be treated for his injuries without implicating his girlfriend, a non-UTA student.
Arlington Police will follow up on the domestic violence assault.
UTA Police aggressively investigate every allegation of criminal activity within the University community. Members of the UTA community are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings at all times and to call UTA Police at 817-272-3381 if they encounter anything or anyone suspicious.
